Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults at St. Martha

Considering becoming a Catholic-Christian? If you have never been baptized in any Christian faith community, or if you have been baptized in another Christian faith community that is not Catholic, the the RCIA is for you!

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is the process whereby people gather to fellowship, learn their faith, and pray together toward the goal of being fully initiated members of the Catholic Church. Unbaptized persons discern a call to become Catechumens, preparing for Baptism at the Easter Vigil. Folks baptized in non-Catholic faith traditions discern becoming Candidates toward a profession of faith and full communion in the Catholic Church.

We also need Sponsors who will walk with our Catechumens and Candidates toward their baptism or in celebrating their full-communion into the Church. If you are a Catholic in good standing, and want to deepen and enrich your faith-life, your prayer, and your knowledge of the Church, then the RCIA is for you, too!

Every potential sponsor, catechumen or candidate needs to make an appointment with the Director for an initial interview. The RCIA process is tailored to each individual, so by getting with your Director (Scott), we can fashion the process to exactly what you need.

Contact Scott FitzGerald (Director) at the parish office (951) 698-8180 ext 246 or email him at: formation.stmartha@gmail.com to setup an initial interview.

Congratulations to our New Catechumens and Candidates!

Before the Christmas Holidays, Deacon Pat joined us for our Christmas Party which included celebrating the Rites of Acceptance and Welcome for our inquirers.  This year, we celebrated the Rites in the context of Vespers (Evening Prayer).  Deacon Pat gave us a very nice and thoughtful reflection on discipleship in Christ.

We are are on Christmas Holiday now, and will return to our sessions on January 6.  For those of you who were to celebrate the Rites but were unable to join us, we will be scheduling a make up.  Get in touch with your sponsors so we can get it done and get you all on board.

Rites of Dismissal (from the 11am Mass) each Sunday will begin after we return, on January 9.  All  Catechumens and Candidates are required to attend each session on Sundays as well as on Thursdays (unless other arrangements have been made with me on a case-by-case basis).

Finally, I have uploaded a new edition of the registration form for Inquirers.  If you know of people interested in becoming Catholic, they only need now to download the form which they can fill out on their computer, and email the data directly to me.  I'm trying to eliminate as much paper as possible!

Have a great celebration of Christmas (12 Days, remember?) and I'll see you in the New Year!

Peace!
Scott

NB: I've uploaded an article I wrote some years ago on the meaning of the song "Twelve Days of Christmas".  It's a catechetical jewel.  Dig in and see what's there!
